Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Picks Up Two Wins Over The Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (5-3, 3-1 ODAC) picked up two wins on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, defeating both Virginia Wesleyan College and Randolph-Macon College. The matches took place at Duchossois Tennis Center on the campus of Washington and Lee University. The Wasps fell to the Generals on Sunday morning to snap their five-match winning streak.

Match One – Emory & Henry 5, Virginia Wesleyan 0
E&H got out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match, losing just seven games to VWC across the three matches. Senior Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.) won at number two singles while junior Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) picked up the win at third singles to seal the 5-0 win.

Match Two – Emory & Henry 5, Randolph-Macon 2
The Wasps opened up a 2-1 advantage over the Yellow Jackets, winning the first two doubles flights. Junior Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Henderson got the 8-6 win at number one while Wintringham and senior Mike Young (Lawrenceville, Ga.) won by an 8-4 score.

Wintringham and Henderson both came away with (6-1, 6-2) triumphs at the second and third singles flights. Young sealed the deal for the Wasps winning number four singles.

Match Three – Washington and Lee 8, Emory & Henry 1
Washington and Lee put a halt to E&H's five-match win streak winning by an 8-1 score. The highlight of the match for the Wasps was seeing their number one doubles team of Nelson and Henderson come away with an 8-4 win.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road for its next three matches as it travels to Hilton Head, S.C. for three contests over spring break. The Wasps will play John Carroll University on Tuesday.
