Matt Nelson Named ODAC Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Matt Nelson has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. It is the first time this season that an E&H player has received this honor.

The junior from Galax, Va., led the Wasps to a 3-0 week, with victories over John Carroll University, Misericordia University and Regis (Mass.) College in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Nelson picked up a three-set victory over John Carroll on Tuesday, and won 6-0, 6-1 over Misericordia and 6-3, 6-1 over Regis (Mass.) on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

He only dropped three games in three matches at number one doubles along with junior Adam Henderson (Abingdgon, Va.). The pair won 8-3 over John Carroll and blanked Misericordia and Regis (Mass.). The team of Nelson and Henderson has won 10-straight matches.

Nelson was selected to the 2011 All-ODAC Doubles First Team and was second team at number three singles.

Emory & Henry will return to ODAC play on Thursday afternoon when it visits Roanoke College. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
