Guilford Men's Tennis Squeaks By Emory & Henry, 5-4, Sunday Afternoon

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Guilford College Men's Tennis Team (10-6, 7-1 ODAC) came back from a 3-0 deficit after doubles play to defeat Emory & Henry, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

E&H's number one doubles team of Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) picked up an 8-4 win to finish league play with a 9-0 record. The pair has only lost one match since teaming up at the end of the fall season. 

Seniors Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.) and Mike Young (Lawrenceville, Ga.) won 8-5 at number two doubles while juniors Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.) and Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) brought home an 8-6 victory at the third doubles flight.

Wintringham was the only Wasp to win his singles match, winning a three-set marathon in a third-set tiebreak (7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (4)).

Henderson and Eccher both went to a third set at number three and number six singles, respectively, but were unable to come away with victories.

Emory & Henry is next scheduled to face the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Thursday, April 12. The Wasps must also complete their ODAC match with the Eagles of Bridgewater College which was suspended due to rain.
