Washington and Lee Men's Tennis Defeats Emory & Henry, 5-0, In ODAC Tournament Semifinals

ASHLAND, Va. - The top-seeded Washington and Lee University Men's Tennis Team advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match with a 5-0 victory over #4 Emory & Henry College Saturday morning at the Randolph-Macon Tennis Complex.

The Wasps, who reached the league tournament semifinals for the second-straight year, conclude the 2011-12 season with a 15-7 record.

After doubles play, the Generals opened up a 3-0 lead, claiming an 8-0 win at the top flight over juniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.). It was the first time the E&H pair has been defeated by ODAC competition and only their second loss as a tandem all season.

At number two doubles, seniors Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.) and Mike Young (Lawrenceville, Ga.) put up a strong showing in their final collegiate match, but ended up falling by an 8-6 score.

W&L completed the victory 5-0 with wins at number five and six singles, to move on to the conference title match Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Emory & Henry will await the announcement of the 2012 All-ODAC Teams which are expected to be released later this weekend.
