NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Three members of the Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team have been selected to the 2011-12 VaSID All-State College Division Men's Tennis Team, VaSID officials announced Monday. Recent graduate Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.), senior Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and senior Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) took home the honors for their accomplishments in the last season.

Henderson was selected to the All-State First Team in singles and teamed up with Nelson for a first-team slot in doubles. The pair went 17-2 on the year with a perfect 9-0 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Henderson was 16-3 with a 7-2 mark in the league at number three singles.

Wintringham earned Second-Team All-Virginia honors for his efforts at number two singles. He posted a 15-5 record for the season going 7-2 in conference play.

As a team, the Wasps finished 15-7 on the season with a 6-3 mark in the league. E&H advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 ODAC Tournament, before falling to eventual champion Washington & Lee University. During the course of the season, Emory & Henry reeled of a 13 wins in 14 matches, with their lone setback in the stretch coming to W&L.

Christopher Newport University's Eric Schulman was selected as State Player of the Year, while the University of Mary Washington saw Evan Charles named Rookie of the Year and Todd Helbing earned Coach-of-the-Year honors.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
