Emory & Henry Men's Tennis Blanks Shenandoah, 9-0, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (13-2, 8-1 ODAC) swept visiting Shenandoah University (3-11, 0-8 ODAC) by a 9-0 score Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Wasps began the match with a 3-0 adnvantage as the Hornets only had four players in action.

E&H got an 8-1 win at the top doubles pairing from seniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.). Senior Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman James Keighley (Heswall, Mercyside, ENGLAND) blanked their opponents at the second doubles flight.

In singles, Nelson rolled by a 6-2, 6-1 score at No. 1 singles while Henderson claimed a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 decision at the second singles matchup. Gilley won 6-1, 7-5 (7-2) at No. 3 singles and senior Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) notched a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the number four spot.

Emory & Henry will conclude the regular season on Sunday at 2:00 when it travels to Bridgewater College for an ODAC contest. With a victory over the Eagles, the Wasps will earn the #2 seed in the 2013 ODAC Tournament.
