#3 Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Blanks Roanoke, 5-0, In ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals

EMORY, Va. – The #3 Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (14-3) made quick work of sixth-seeded Roanoke College (9-8) Saturday afternoon in the Quarterfinals of the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. With the 5-0 win, the Wasps advance to face the Eagles of Bridgewater College in the tournament semifinals.

E&H got out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Senior Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) and freshman Alex Minasyan (Moscow, RUSSIA) blanked their opponents, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles. Senior Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman James Keighley (Heswall, Mercyside, ENGLAND) won 8-5 at the second doubles flight while seniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) picked up an 8-6 victory at the top pairing.

Nelson and Henderson sealed the victory for the Wasps with fast wins at number three and four singles, respectively. Nelson won 6-0, 6-0 while Henderson earned the 6-1, 6-1 win. The other four singles matches were also in the grips of E&H players when the decision was earned, with three of them already reaching the second set.

Emory & Henry will travel to Virginia Beach, Va., next Saturday for the ODAC Tournament Semifinals at 11:00 a.m. The Wasps will take on the #2 Bridgewater Eagles, who defeated seventh-seeded Randolph-Macon College, 5-0, on Saturday.
