Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Falls To Second-Seeded Bridgewater, 5-2, In ODAC Tournament Semifinals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The #2 Bridgewater College Men's Tennis Team (14-7) advanced to the championship match of the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon at the Everett Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Wasps conclude the year with a 14-4 record, reaching the ODAC Tournament semifinals in three-straight seasons.

The Eagles got out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion of the match. E&H senior Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) and freshman Alex Minasyan (Moscow, RUSSIA) picked up an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles to give E&H a 1-0 lead in the match.

Bridgewater tied things with an 8-4 win over senior Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.) and freshman James Keighley (Heswall, Mercyside, ENGLAND) at the second doubles flight and took a 2-1 lead by defeating seniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) by a 8-6 margin at the top pairing.

In singles play, BC made it 4-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 and a 7-5, 6-1 decision at the third flight.

Henderson got the lone point during singles action for the Wasps, winning 6-4, 6-2 for a 4-2 match score.

The match was sealed with the result in the premier singles flight as Keighley was defeated 6-4, 6-4.

Gilley split the first two sets while Minasyan was down late in the second set when the match ended.

Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the All-ODAC Teams, which will come with the completion of the league tournament.
