Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Takes Down Shenandoah, 8-1, Sunday On The Road

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (3-8, 1-3 ODAC) won its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference match of the season Sunday afternoon as it defeated Shenandoah University (2-3, 0-3 ODAC) by an 8-1 score at Lowry Tennis Courts.

The Wasps got things started earning two points during the doubles portion of the match. Sophomore Alex Minasyan (Moscow, RUSSIA) and freshman John Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) earned an 8-2 win at the top doubles flight while freshmen Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) claimed an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 pairing.

Emory & Henry swept all six singles matches to seal the team victory. Minasyan got a three-set win (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the premier pairing to remain undefeated in league matches while Ferguson won at No. 2 singles, 6-3 6-1.

Aliev notched a 6-4 6-3 win at the third flight while sophomore Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) won a three-setter (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) at number four. Freshman Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) and junior John Hanlon (Bristol, Tenn.) won by scores of 6-0 6-0 and 6-2 6-1, respectively at the fifth and sixth spots.

Emory & Henry will step out of conference play when it travels to face Bluefield College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
