Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Blanks Southern Virginia, 9-0, Tuesday Afternoon

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (1-1) picked up its first win of the season Tuesday afternoon, 9-0, over Southern Virginia University (1-1). The Wasps outscored the Knights, 96-15 over the course of the afternoon as five matches were won without dropping a game.

During the doubles portion of the match, junior Alex Minasyan (Moscow, RUSSIA) and sophomore John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) won at the top flight by an 8-6 score. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and freshman Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Mich.) claimed an 8-0 victory. The third doubles pairing was won, 8-2, by sophomore Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) and freshman Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.).

In singles play, Minasyan won 6-0, 6-1 at the premier singles pairing. Ferguson, Aliev and Polydoroff won their matches at No. 2 through No. 4 singles with dropping a game. Funkhouser earned a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the fifth singles flight while sophomore Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) won, 6-0 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Emory & Henry will next compete in the Division III ITA South Regional Championships this weekend on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta.
