E&H Loses First Match of PTR Spring TennisFest, 8-1, To Roosevelt

Hilton Head, S.C. – The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (2-4, 0-2 ODAC) faced off against the Lakers of Roosevelt University (5-4). The team fell by the score of 8-1. The match is the first of four this week as the team traveled to Hilton Head, S.C. for the PTR Spring TennisFest.

Sophomores Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) started off the match at one doubles. The pair unfortunately fell by the score of 8-1. At two doubles, sophomore John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and freshman Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.) fought in a very competitive match. At one point the duo was up four games to three. Ultimately, they fell 8-6. To complete the doubles matches, junior Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) and freshman Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Minn.) played in a hard fought match as well. The two were up 6-2 in the match, but went down by a score of 8-6 as well.

In singles play, Ferguson and Aliev fell 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-0, respectively. Polydoroff picked up E&H's lone win after defeating Roosevelt's number three, 6-2, 6-3. Funkhouser went down 6-2, 6-1 at four. Dodson went down 6-0, 6-1 in the five spot. Lastly, Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) lost 6-4, 6-2 at the six spot.

The Wasps take on Ohio Wesleyan in their second match of the PTR Spring TennisFest tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
