Men's Tennis Takes Down Conference Foe, Hampden-Sydney, 6-3

Sweet Briar, Va. - The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (4-5, 1-2 ODAC) picked up their first ODAC win of the season against Hampden-Sydney College (1-7, 0-3 ODAC) Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-3. The win is the Wasps second consecutive victory after defeating Heidelberg University in Hilton Head, S.C. This was the first time the Wasps defeated the Tigers since the 2012-13 season. With the win, the Wasps surpassed their win total from all of last season, with six more matches scheduled for the season.

At one doubles, Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) played competitively, but ultimately fell 8-6 to the Tigers. John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.) were challenged at the two spot, but earned the victory 9-8 (7-1). Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) and Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Minn.) cruised by at the three flight 8-0.

Ferguson defeated Hampden-Sydney's number one, 6-3, 6-1 during singles play. Aliev unfortunately fell 6-1, 6-2. The freshman, Polydoroff won once again, 6-2, 6-2, bringing his overall individual record to 7-4 on the season. Funkhouser played well, but lost 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 10-8. At the five spot, Dodson shutout his opponent by winning 6-0, 6-0. Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) rounded out the victory with his 6-1, 6-1 victory.

The Wasps next match is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at 1 p.m. vs. Randolph College.
