E&H Men's Tennis defeats Lynchburg, 5-1; Falls to Randolph, 5-1

Emory, Va. – The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (5-6, 2-3 ODAC) split their doubleheader vs. conference opponents Lynchburg College (0-5, 0-4 ODAC) and Randolph College (5-4, ODAC 2-2) Sunday afternoon. Emory & Henry earned the 5-1 victory as the Wasps and Hornets played the ODAC matchup to decision. The team later fell to the Wildcats 5-1.

Match One - Emory & Henry 5, Lynchburg 1

Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) and Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) started off the day with an 8-4 loss at the number one doubles spot. However, the team started rolling at two doubles with John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.) fighting to an 8-5 victory. At three, Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) and Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Va.) defeated their opponents 8-2.

At the one flight in singles, Ferguson made quick work of his opponent winning 6-0, 6-1. Aliev dominated in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. While Polydoroff sealed the match by winning 6-0, 6-2. Polydoroff picked up his eigth singles victory on the year, which is the most on squad.

Match Two - Randolph 5, Emory & Henry 1

The tandem of Funkhouser and Aliev at one fought but fell 8-5. Meanwhile at two doubles, Ferguson and Dodson lost 8-2. Romano and Polydoroff played in a tough match at the third flight. The pair ended up losing 9-8 (9-7) to the threes of Randolph College.

In singles, Ferguson lost, but worked his way back from down 6-0. Randolph's one defeated him 6-0, 4-6, 10-7. Aliev's 6-0, 6-2 loss sealed E&H's fate in the second match. However, before that match finished Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) played in an exciting match that got the Wasps their lone victory. After being down 6-0 after the first set, Logan outlasted his opponent by winning 0-6, 6-2, 10-7.

The Wasps next match is a home match vs. Guilford on March 4th at 1 p.m.
