Shenandoah Men's Tennis Edges Out Emory & Henry, 5-4, Sunday Afternoon

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Wasps (5-10, 2-7 ODAC) took to the court vs. conference foe Shenandoah University (8-7, 3-6 ODAC) Sunday Afternoon.  Coming into the match, the Wasps were tied for eighth in the conference standings with Shenandoah, which made the match even more crucial for both teams looking to advance to the ODAC Tournament.  Ultimately, the Hornets of Shenandoah bested the Wasps 5-4 in the close match.

Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) fell for the seventh straight match at one doubles, 8-1.  The duo of John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.) played in a tightly contested match, but fell 9-7.  However, junior Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) and freshman Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Minn.) continue to show that they are the best pairing on the team.  The two won their fifth match as partners today by a final score of 8-6.

Ferguson played in an up and down match at the one spot this afternoon.  The sophomore at long last faltered and lost the match, 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (6-3).  Aliev picked up his first win since March 29th, after beating Shenandoah's number two, 6-2, 6-1.  Polydoroff got back to his winning ways, defeating Shenandoah's three 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).  Polydoroff picked up his team leading 10th victory on the season.  Funkhouser and Dodson lost at four and five by the scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Even though the match's winner was decided, Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) took down his opponent at the six position, 7-6, 6-3. The win is Logan's second in a row and seventh overall. 

The Wasps play their last regular season game at Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, April 15th at 2 p.m.
