Emory & Henry Drops Regular Season Finale, 8-1, Wednesday Afternoon

Ashland, Va. - The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (5-11, 2-8 ODAC) lost their last match of the season Wednesday afternoon to Randolph-Macon College (7-4, 4-3 ODAC).  This loss was the Wasps sixth straight loss and effectively ended the team's chance of qualifying for the ODAC tournament this season.

The Wasps started off the day with losses at the one and two doubles spots.  Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) fell 8-1 at the one flight, finishing the season 2-11 as partners.  At two, John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Dillan Dodson (Hampton, Va.) lost a close match 8-4.  The Wasps lone win came at the three doubles position.  Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) and Alex Polydoroff (Falcon Heights, Minn.) continued with their winning ways against Randolph-Macon, winning 9-8. This victory is the duo's third straight and sixth overall on the year.

At one singles, Ferguson was shut out 6-0, 6-0, while Aliev did not fair much better after a 6-2, 6-2 loss. Polydoroff lost as well at the three slot, 6-2, 6-1.  Despite the loss, Polydoroff finished up the season with the most singles wins (10) and doubles wins (7) on the team.  Funkhouser dropped his match 6-3, 6-1.  Dodson also fell 6-0, 6-3.  Eric Logan (Abingdon, Va.) saw his win streak come to an end as he lost at the six spot, 6-2, 6-0.  Other than Polydoroff, Logan was the only player to finish with an indvidual record over .500, completing his sophomore year 7-6.
