Both the Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Fall Short to Conference Foe Lynchburg, Friday

Lynchburg, Va. - Both the men's (1-8, 0-2 ODAC) and women's (4-3, 1-1 ODAC) traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday to face off against ODAC opponent Lynchburg College.  The men's team lost to their counterpart (2-8, 1-3 ODAC) by a score of 7-2.  The win was the Hornets first ODAC win of the season.  The Lynchburg women (6-5, 2-2 ODAC) narrowly escaped with a 5-4 victory.  The loss is the E&H women's first ODAC loss of the season.

The men started the day of right with a win at one doubles.  John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) made quick work of their opponents, winning 8-2.  Two doubles went down 8-1 as the the third flight was shut out 8-0.

Ferguson dominated his opponent at one singles, 6-0, 6-0.  Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) took his foe to a third set, but wound up losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.  Both of Funkhouser's sets were close, but the junior went down 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.  Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) lost at four 6-0, 6-3. Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) fell 6-4, 6-2 and James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) lost 6-1, 6-0, at five and six, respectively.

Sveva Mazzari (San Remo, ITALY) and Savanna Summers (Bluff City, Tn.) continued their winning streak as double partners with an 8-1 victory at the one spot.  The two are currently undefeated as doubles partners.  Two and three doubles were not able to earn victories, however. 

Mazzari has shut out yet another opponent.  Mazzari has now won seven singles matches in a row and five of the last six have been 6-0, 6-0 victories.  Lauren Riner (Coeburn, Va.) lost at two singles 6-1, 6-2 on Friday.  Summers defeated her opponent in a tough three-set matchup by a score of 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.  Kaitlyn Sheaves (Staunton, Va.) also went to three sets, but unfortunately lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.  Kaitlin Meade (Coeburn, Va.) won her third straight singles match of the season 1-6, 6-3, 10-8.  Kala Curtis (Locust Grove, Va.) went down 6-0, 6-3 to finish of the day for the Wasps.

Both teams take on Randolph College once again on the road on Saturday, March 26.
