Emory & Henry Men’s Tennis Competes At ITA South Region Championship Friday

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – For the first time since the fall of 2014, the Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team competed in the ITA South Region Championships. Sophomores Brandon McGuire (Christiansburg, Va.) and Archer Marlow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) were E&H's representatives in the event. This year's championship was held at the Rome Tennis Center on the campus of Berry College.

The Format
Each singles player and doubles team was guaranteed at least two matches in the event. Those who lost in the first round were entered into the "Consolation Draw" of their respective flights.

Singles
McGuire was drawn into the "A Singles" flight while Marlow took a spot in the "C Singles" flight.

McGuire faced off against Andres Carro of The University of the South, falling by a 6-0, 6-0 score. In the first consolation round, Jamie Bekaert of Birmingham-Southern College defeated McGuire, 6-2 6-3.

Marlow picked up a win in his first match of the tournament, defeating Murph Lutian of Berry by a 6-4, 6-3 mark. Marlow dropped his contest in the round of 16 to Oglethorpe University's Connor Sisson, 6-1 6-2.

Doubles
McGuire and Marlow teamed up in the "A Doubles" draw. They met Guilford College's Joseph Horne and Drake Schreiber in the opening round, falling 8-5. In the consolation round of 16, Noah Holsclaw and Jack Metzger of Sewanee advanced over the E&H tandem, 8-3.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will return to dual match action on Wednesday when it visits Washington and Lee University to open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. Both Wasps' teams will be in action in the match which begins at 3:00 p.m.
