The Eden, North Carolina native grabs second-team all-state laurels after winning the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship in the shot put (indoor) in March. Pinnix burst onto the scene this past winter in his first year as a member of the Wasps' track & field team. Over the course of five indoor meets, he increased his personal best by 2.02 meters (nearly seven feet), earning three top-10 finishes. Pinnix's best mark of 14.41 meters came at the Noke Elite Meet (Feb. 8, 2020) and he threw for 14.35 meters on his way to the league title.

Emory & Henry has now won two straight ODAC titles in the shot put and has earned five podiums (top-three finishes) in the discipline since the 2019 league indoor championships.

Davonta Womack of Bridgewater College earned a pair of major awards, bringing home State Field Athlete of the Year and sharing State Track Athlete of the Year honors with University of Lynchburg's Reid Sharkey. State Rookie of the Year accolades went to Murray Bingham of Southern Virginia University (track) and Geni Roberts of Virginia Wesleyan University (field). Christopher Newport University mentor Tyler Wingard was named State Coach of the Year.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 15 sports and five single-division teams. The group also recognizes Academic All-State teams across all sports.
