Emory & Henry Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams Earn Academic Award

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams have both earned team academic awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, USTFCCCA officials announced recently.

Both of the Wasps' squads were honored with the distinction of "All-Academic" team for the fall of 2015. It is the second year in a row that E&H has has both of its teams honored by the USTFCCCA. To be eligible for the award, the team's cumulative grade-point average must be above a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale.

The E&H men posted a 3.46 during the fall semester which was the 33rd-best in NCAA Division III and number two in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Wasps were one of four programs in the league to be recognized and one of 151 teams nationally.

Emory & Henry's women had a GPA of 3.22 last fall, and were one of eight ODAC schools to earn the "All-Academic" moniker. Overall there were 208 Division III women's programs to reach the 3.1 GPA threshold.

"Obviously, I am incredibly excited about the progress that we have made athletically, but the more important developments have occurred in the classroom", said Head Coach Tom Anteuncci. "Earning all-academic team honors is a tremendous achievement and one that I expect us to repeat every year."

In four seasons under Antenucci, the Emory & Henry Cross Country program is reaching new heights in competition as well as in the classroom. The men finished sixth at the 2015 ODAC Championships while the women were ninth in the conference championship race.
