Emory & Henry Cross Country Announces 2016 Meet Schedule

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams have set their schedule for the 2016 season. Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Ian Layne, this fall's lineup will see the Wasps compete in seven different meets on five courses in four different states.

"I am excited about how our schedule lines up this year. We're really excited to have the opportunity to travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the Greater Louisville Classic as it also serves as Pre-Nationals for Division III," said Layne. "The experience we gain from meets like this will help us later in the season at the ODAC Championships and the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship."

For a second season, Wasps will begin the season a time trial against Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. The event is set for 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 1.

Next up for Emory & Henry is the ODAC Preview Meet at Washington and Lee University on Friday, September 9. The meet will give the Wasps a glimpse of the course for the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

E&H will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, September 24 for the Greensboro Invitational, hosted by Greensboro College. Last year, the Wasp men won the NCAA Division III race while the women were second in their division.

The Greater Louisville Classic marks the midpoint of the 2016 season for Emory & Henry. The event, which will take place at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Saturday, October 1 and is always one of the largest meets in the country.

Emory & Henry will visit Tallulah Falls, Georgia on Saturday, October 8 for the Piedmont Invitational. The race is also the preview meet for the USA South Athletic Conference and will see the Wasps compete against many of that league's top teams.

"Most of the meets this year are familiar to us and I believe that it will lead to faster times. Knowing the course and how it runs is a huge advantage and will be something that both teams will look to use this fall," Layne added.

On Saturday, October 29 Emory & Henry will officially begin the postseason with the 2016 ODAC Championships, hosted by Washington and Lee. Two weeks later, the Wasps will return to Berry for the 2016 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championships, which will round out the season.
