Emory & Henry Cross Country Sweeps At The Greensboro Invitational Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams earned a pair of victories at the 33rd Annual Greensboro Invitational Saturday. The men repeat as the winners of the Division III race while the women improved their second-place finish from a year ago to win their division.

The Basics
MEN'S RESULT – 1st/4 Division III – 5th/14 overall
WOMEN'S RESULT – 1st/5 Division III – 6th/14 overall
LOCATION – Greensboro, North Carolina – Hagan Stone Park

The Men – 8K (5 miles)
- Senior Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) ran a 29:11 to win the Division III race and finished 18th overall while senior Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) was second on the team and in the division with a 29:21 (21st overall).
- Sophomore Austin Tolbert (Wytheville, Va.) came in third for E&H and was sixth/31st in the race, running a 29:59.
- Sophomore Zane Moran (Floyd, Va.) and junior Michael LoGrande (Alexandria, Va.) rounded out the top five for the Wasps.
- High Point University's Chirnet Sisay posted a time of 26:37 for medalist honors.
- Concord University was the overall top team, placing four runners in the top nine.

The Women – 5K (3.1 miles)
- Freshman Erica Grupp (Charlottesville, Va.) was Emory & Henry's number one finisher runner with a time of 21:47 to finish third in the Division III race (24th overall).
- Senior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) finished second on the squad and was fourth/28th in the race as she turned in a time of 22:04.
- Freshman Michelle Gentry (Troutville, Va.), sophomore Taylor Henderson (Glade Spring, Va.) and freshman Maddie Copenhaver (Glade Spring, Va.) finished ninth, 11th, and 13th in the division, respectively, to round out Emory & Henry's top five.
- Emma Astrike-Davis of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's club team ran an 18:59 to win the overall meet while the Division III race was won by Abbey Starks of Howard Community College (19:39).
- High Point University won the overall team championship, with four runners in the top eight.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry's will next compete at the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville next Saturday. The Wasps will get to compete against some of the top NCAA Division III teams in the country at one of the nation's premier cross country layouts.
