NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Cross Country Team has earned a team academic award from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, USTFCCCA officials announced recently.

The Wasps were honored with the distinction of "All-Academic" team for the fall semester of 2016. It is the third year in a row that the E&H men have been honored by the USTFCCCA. To be eligible for the award, the team's cumulative grade-point average must be above a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale.

The E&H men posted a 3.62 through the fall semester which was the sixth-best in NCAA Division III and at the top of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Wasps were one of six programs in the league to be recognized and one of 173 teams nationally.

"I am very excited that we have continued the tradition of being an All-Academic Team this past fall," commented Head Coach Ian Layne. "I am very proud of the team and how much effort they put into doing well academically. This is a monumental achievement, and one we look to achieve every year."   

Under Layne's guidance this past fall, the Wasps posted an eighth-place finish at the ODAC Championships and were a Top 25 finisher in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region. E&H won the Greensboro Invitational for the second year in a row and saw senior Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) honored as ODAC Runner of the Week following the Piedmont Invitational in October.
