Brandy Bryant Named ODAC Softball Pitcher Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Brandy Bryant has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. It is the first time in over eight years that a Wasp pitcher has received weekly honors from the league.

Two weeks ago, freshman third baseman Caley Hodge (Elizabethton, Tenn.) was named the ODAC Softball Player of the Week as Emory & Henry started the season 6-0 at the Gene Cusic Classic in Cape Coral, Florida.

Bryant led Emory & Henry to a 7-1 week with a 5-1 mark in ODAC play. She earned two wins and picked up a pair of saves in four appearances with a 2.07 earned run average. The Salem, Virginia native allowed a total of six earned runs on 14 hits and six walks while striking out 13 batters.

Bryant threw a four-hit complete game against Roanoke College on Tuesday as the Wasps won, 2-1, and carried a perfect game into the fifth inning on Sunday against Bridgewater, allowing just two hits and two walks in a 1-0 shutout victory.

The senior right-hander also earned a pair of saves on the week, coming into close things out in game two at Bluefield College on Wednesday and on Saturday against Eastern Mennonite, pitching the final two outs after going 4.1 innings earlier in the game.

For the year, Bryant is 5-0 with two saves and a 1.69 ERA. She has a 3.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 0.92 WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched).

On March 12, 2007 Shannon Harris was selected as the ODAC Pitcher of the Week after going 3-1. The All-ODAC performer got a pair of wins over Randolph-Macon College and one against Virginia Wesleyan College, striking out 26 batters in 21.2 innings of work.

Emory & Henry (17-1, 7-1 ODAC) is currently in first place in the ODAC standings. The Wasps will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to face the Quakers of Guilford College (16-8, 4-2 ODAC) in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
