Hannah Bays Named ODAC Softball Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Hannah Bays has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. Bays caps her career with her first Player of the Week nod in the final week of the regular season.

It is the second time this year that a Wasp has earned weekly league honors. Caley Hodge was tabbed as the Softball Player of the Week on April 4.

The senior right fielder from Abingdon, Virginia led the Wasps to a pair of league victories in their only two games of the week. The two wins over Shenandoah University Saturday solidified E&H's spot in the ODAC Tournament.

Bays went 6-for-8 (.750) at the plate with two home runs, four runs scored and five RBI. In game one against the Hornets, she went three-for-four with a run scored and a RBI. She followed that performance up with another three-for-four outing in game two, blasting a pair of two-run home runs for four RBI and scored three times.

Her home run in the second inning of game two broke the Emory & Henry record for home runs in a career as her 23rd round-tripper. She got number 24 in the bottom of the sixth to put the Wasps ahead 11-3 and end the game via the Eight-Run Advantage Rule.

Bays has played in 36 of Emory & Henry's games this year. She is batting .302 with a .370 on-base percentage and is slugging .458. She has scored 12 runs with 23 RBI and has three-home runs to her credit. Bays has also drawn 10 walks and been hit by a pitch on the season.

Emory & Henry (15-25) will compete in the 2016 ODAC Tournament this weekend as the #8 seed. The Wasps will take on #1 Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday at noon on Field 1 of the James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
