Emory & Henry Softball Picks Up A Sweep Of Marietta And Oberlin Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (5-3) earned a pair of wins Saturday in its first home games of the season. The Wasps defeated Marietta College (1-1) by a 2-0 score to start things off and held on for a 4-3 win over Oberlin College (0-2) in the final game of the day.

Game One
- Marietta picked up a 15-2 win over Oberlin in the opening game of the day. Up 7-1 through five innings, the Pioneers used an eight-run sixth to propel them to a 15-1 lead.
- A single run in the bottom of the sixth by OC made the final score 15-2 as the Eight-Run Advantage Rule came into effect.

Game Two
- Emory & Henry, playing as the visiting team on the scoreboard, got things going with a run in the top of the first. With one out and a runner on third, junior centerfielder Leah Elswick (Honaker, Va.) tagged a double to make the score 1-0.
- The Wasps added a second run in the third as Elswick again singled to center.
- Junior Emily Kendrick (Honaker, Va.) earned the complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits as she struck out eight.
- Jocelyn White suffered the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings pitched.

Game Three
- E&H got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as freshman centerfielder Caitlyn Yates (Coeburn, Va.) homered to left field for her first collegiate round-tripper.
- The Wasps made the score 3-0 after four thanks to a solo shot by senior third baseman Ragan Halsey (Hillsville, Va.).
- A single by junior designated player Caley Hodge (Elizabethton, Tenn.) in the fifth gave Emory & Henry a 4-0 advantage.
- Oberlin fought its way back into the game in the sixth, scoring three times on five hits. A double by Grace Evans highlighted the inning as the Yeowomen closed the gap to 4-3, but would get no closer.
- Freshman Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) earned the victory, allowing three runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Kendrick struck out the side in the seventh to pick up her second save of the season.
- Leandre Glendenning threw four innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts, despite the loss.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Halsey had three hits on the day, highlighted by her home run while Yates went two-for-three with a home run and two runs scored.
- Elswick went two-for-three with two RBI and a double and sophomore right fielder Madison McClanahan (Abingdon, Va.) had two hits including a double.
- Senior second baseman Danielle Loving (Elizabethton, Tenn.) put up a pair of hits while senior second baseman Riley Pudney (Beech Mountain, N.C.) hit a double and scored a run.
