Emory & Henry Softball Pitchers Featured By HEROSports.com

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team has seen its duo of starting pitchers highlighted in a feature by HEROSports.com dated Monday, April 3. The article, written by Scott Schultz, the D3 Softball writer for HEROSports, lists Wasp junior Emily Kendrick (Honaker, Va.) and freshman Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) as one of the top pitching tandems in the country.

The other three staffs featured in the piece represent the top three teams in NCAA Division III as ranked by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) in its latest Top 25 Poll. Marie Callop and Kassie Howard of No. 1 Berry College, No. 2 University of Texas-Tyler's Alaina Kissinger and Whitney Romero and third-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College's Hanna Hull and Courtney Wright are the other pairs mentioned by the publication.

"We have always prided ourselves on being a pitching staff and not individual pitchers, so it's really cool to see Emily and Tiffany honored in this way," commented Head Coach Tommy Forrester. "They are both very talented and have worked hard to lead us in the circle this season. It speaks volumes about our pitchers and how far our program has come to be featured in the same article with some of the elite programs in the nation."

Kendrick currently leads the Wasps' staff with a 10-4 record and a 1.79 ERA. She has also earned three saves on the year and has struck out a team-high 82 batters in 94 innings. The Walters State Community College transfer also has nine complete games and five shutouts to her credit with a 5.86 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Her best game to date is Sunday's one-hit victory over No. 15 Randolph-Macon College.

Cole is 7-4 on the season with a 2.80 earned run average. She has thrown seven complete games with three shutouts. Cole has struck out 35 batters in 80 innings of work and boasts a WHIP (walks plus hits per innings pitched) of 1.26. She posted a streak of four-straight starts for wins between March 10 and March 25.
