Danielle Loving Named ODAC Softball Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College's Danielle Loving has been selected as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Monday afternoon. Loving wins the award for the first time in her career, marking the second time this season that a Wasp has been honored by the league. Junior Caley Hodge (Elizabethton, Tenn.), a high-school teammate of Loving's, picked up the accolade on March 20.

The senior infielder from Elizabethton, Tennessee led the Emory & Henry to a 5-1 record against ODAC opponents last week, including sweeps over Roanoke College and Bridgewater College.

Loving went 8-for-23 (.348) at the plate with six runs, a .783 slugging percentage, a .375 on-base average and four stolen bases. She tallied a double and a trio of home runs across the six-game span, including a grand slam in E&H's 8-4 win over Roanoke Wednesday. Loving capped the week with a pair of multi-hit games at Bridgewater, notching a two-run homer in each contest.

For the year, Loving leads the team in hits (43), runs (26), RBI (29) and home runs (nine). She also has the highest slugging percentage (.709) and the most stolen bases (nine) on the squad. Loving's .391 batting average is second-best for the Wasps, as is her .407 on-base percentage.

Emory & Henry (23-9, 9-5 ODAC) will visit Guilford College (24-10, 9-5 ODAC) in a key conference doubleheader on Tuesday. The pair of contests will be played at the Quakers' Haworth Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.
