SALEM, Va. – The #4 Emory & Henry College Softball Team (30-12) split its pair of games on Friday in the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The Wasps opened the day with a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded Lynchburg College and closed out action by dropping a 1-0 decision to top-seeded and No. 1 nationally-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College.
Emory & Henry's next game in the 2017 ODAC Tournament will be on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex. The Wasps will take on third-seeded Guilford College, which defeated #7 Eastern Mennonite University in an elimination game earlier Friday evening.

How It Happened
- The Marlins got the only score of the contest in the bottom of the first inning. With Kiersten Richardson on second base following a leadoff single and stolen base, Cassity Howerin singled to right-center to push the run across.
- E&H forced VWC to strand nine runners in the contest while the Marlins only allowed four Wasps to reach base.
- Virginia Wesleyan left-hander Hanna Hull earned the complete-game shutout, striking out nine with just one hit and two walks.
- Wasp freshman Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) suffered the loss despite pitching a gem, allowing one run on seven hits.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior third baseman Ragan Halsey (Hillsville, Va.) notched E&H's only hit of the game, a lead-off single in the third.
- Senior shortstop Danielle Loving (Elizabethton, Tenn.) drew a pair of walks and reached on a fielder's choice, stealing a pair of bases.
Virginia Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Blake Henderson and Madison Glaubke each went two-for-three in the contest, but it was Howerin's first-inning single that made the difference.
- Richardson finished the game with a hit, a run and three stolen bases.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs and junior second baseman Leah Elswick (Honaker, Va.) on second base, senior shortstop Danielle Loving (Elizabethton, Tenn.) tagged a double to left centerfield to drive in the run.
- That run would be enough as the two teams combined for only six hits in the contest.
- Wasp junior Emily Kendrick (Honaker, Va.) picked up the complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits. The victory was her 17th of the year, which ties the Emory & Henry program record.
- Lynchburg's Conner English suffered the loss, allowing one run on three hits with two walks.

- Elswick finished with one run on a hit and a walk while Loving had a hit and a RBI.
- Junior first baseman Caley Hodge (Elizabethton, Tenn.) also had a base hit in the contest.
Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Skylar Dickens, Gabby Solomita and Sarah Commons provided the offense for the Hornets, each notching a base hit.
Notable
- Emory & Henry makes it a 30-win season for just the second time in program history. The Wasps' other 30-win season was in 2002 when they went 32-12-1.
- E&H wins their first game of the tournament for the first time since 2007 when they defeated Eastern Mennonite University by a 1-0 score in 10 innings.
