EMORY, Va. – The No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan University Softball Team (21-2, 7-1 ODAC) picked up a pair of victories against Emory & Henry College (13-10, 4-2 ODAC) Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Marlins took game one by a 7-2 score and completed the sweep with a 5-1 victory.
Saturday also served as E&H's annual Light It Up Blue Day in support of autism awareness and the Blue Ridge Autism & Achievement Center in Roanoke.

Game One – No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan 7, Emory & Henry 2
The Marlins got the scoring started in the top of the first as Julia Sinnett drove in Jessica Goldyn with single to centerfield. E&H tied the game at one in the second when junior second baseman Lyndsay Boyd (Abingdon, Va.) reached on an error which plated junior shortstop Leanna Toler (Abingdon, Va.).
VWU took a 3-1 lead midway through the fourth highlighted by a solo home run by Kayla Duplain. The Wasps closed the gap to 3-2 when senior centerfielder Erin Anderson (Aylett, Va.) scored on an error after a wild pitch.
Jessica Lindsay was responsible for three of the Marlins' four runs to push the final margin to 7-2 as she hit a two-run homer in the fifth and a solo shot in the seventh.
Hanna Hull picked up the victory allowing two unearned runs on three hits with 10 walks. E&H sophomore Cameron Derr (Cornelius, N.C.) was saddled with the loss, permitting seven runs on 11 hits despite striking out six.
Game Two – No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan 5, Emory & Henry 1
After three scoreless innings, VWU got on the board in the fourth when Beth Ford reached on an error, scoring Maria Weddle. The Wasps answered in the bottom of the frame on a single to left field by sophomore third baseman Allyson Steadman (Kingsport, Tenn.).
In the seventh, Virginia Wesleyan tacked on four runs to earn the victory. A sacrifice fly by Katelyn Biando got things going and a two-run homer by Lindsay – her third of the day – highlighted the frame. E&H was able to get a runner aboard in its last half inning, but the VWU defense held on for the 5-1 win.
Hull picked up her second victory of the afternoon, this time pitching 2.1 innings of relief with four strikeouts. Wasp sophomore Alex Braun (Cornelius, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.

E&H remains at home on Sunday for a twin-billing against Randolph-Macon College at 1:00 p.m. The Wasps will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the softball program and invite all members of the Emory & Henry Softball family to join for a great afternoon of fellowship.
