Emory & Henry’s Anna Thomas Honored As All-State By VaSID

ANNANDALE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team has seen one of its players named All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors, VaSID officials announced Tuesday. This marks the fourth year in a row that an E&H player has been tabbed to the All-State College Division Teams.

Freshman left fielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) was selected to the All-State First Team after earning All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Second Team and ODAC Rookie of the Year accolades.

Thomas led the team with an even .400 batting average and 15 doubles. She added 46 hits, scored 33 runs, posted an OPS of 1.023, stole 10 bases, drove in 27 runs and led the team with five sacrifices. Thomas had 12 multi-hit games, nine multi-RBI and eight multi-run contests and strung together a seven-game hitting streak early in the season.

Emory & Henry finished the season with a 26-18 record and its second appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in three years. The Wasps were second in the ODAC regular season with a program-best 14-6 league mark and took fourth in the conference tournament.

University of Lynchburg's Mackenzie Chitwood, the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year was named State Player of the Year. Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan University earned her third-straight State Pitcher of the Year award while Christopher Newport University's Kaitlyn Hasty claimed State Rookie of the Year honors. Randolph-Macon College head coach Kevin Proffitt was tabbed as State Coach of the Year.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 14 sports and four single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
