#3 Lynchburg Softball Advances To ODAC Championship Series With 4-0 Win Over #2 Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – The third-seeded University of Lynchburg Softball Team (29-16) will play for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship winning its league semifinal series with #2 Emory & Henry College (26-7). The Hornets took game three by a 4-0 score on Wednesday afternoon.

Game One – #3 Lynchburg 4, #2 Emory & Henry 0
After two scoreless innings, the Hornets got on the board in the top of the third as Lexi Powell drove in Addison Walter with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. The Hornets put a pair of runners on in the fourth and fifth but were unable to add to their 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Wasps loaded the bases with two outs as sophomore catcher Dacey Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman Desi Norris (Sims, N.C.) tallied back-to-back base hits and junior second baseman Hailey Mince (Trinity, N.C.) reached on an error. The Wasps could not break into the scoring column however.

Lynchburg answered in the top of the sixth by scoring a two-out run thanks to Sophie Tully's single to left field, making the score 2-0. The Hornets added a pair of insurance runs for a 4-0 lead in the seventh on a single by Kayla Hugate and a double by Olivia Herman. E&H got a runner aboard with two outs but could not generated the necessary offense to stay alive.

Angela Sperandeo earned the shutout victory as she scattered four hits and five strikeouts. E&H senior Alex Braun (Lexington, S.C.) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the 48-team field for this year's NCAA Division III Tournament. The Wasps are chasing one of five at-large bids which will be awarded to the top programs in the country who did not earn their conference's automatic qualification. The selection show will be streamed on NCAA.com on the afternoon of Monday, May 17.
