SEGUIN, Texas – The T-No. 2 Texas Lutheran University Softball Team (31-4) scored twice in the second inning and held off multiple rallies by No. 15 Emory & Henry College (28-8) for a 5-0 win in the 2021 NCAA Division III Seguin Regional Saturday night.

TLU broke open a scoreless game in the top of the second when Kelly Jurden drew a bases-loaded walk which plated Chassety Raines. Casey Martin made it 2-0 on the next at bat when she reached on an error, scoring Sarah Metzer.
In the third, a two-out double by junior second baseman Hailey Mince (Trinity, N.C.) got things going for Emory & Henry. Junior centerfielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) singled down the right field line, but the throw home was in time to get the third out.
The Wasps got back-to-back hits to lead off the bottom of the fifth from senior shortstop Kyndall Hiatt (Ararat, Va.) and freshman catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.), but were unable to get on the board.
Texas Lutheran extended its lead to 5-0 in the sixth as Jurden tripled down the left field line to drive in two. Rebecca Snow plated another run on a flare into shallow right field.
E&H got a runner aboard early in the sixth but three straight groundouts put the rally on hold. The Wasps went down in order in the seventh as the Bulldogs claimed the 5-0 win.
Sydney Ouellette earned the shutout victory in the circle, scattering six hits and no walks while striking out three. Jurden went 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI to lead the Bulldog offense.
Wasp senior Cameron Derr (Denver, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Thomas finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four putouts, pacing E&H at the plate.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when it takes on #6 Cedar Crest College in an elimination game at 1:00 p.m. CDT (2:00 p.m. Eastern). The winner of that contest will face off against #1 Texas Lutheran in the regional championship later Sunday afternoon.
