Emory & Henry Softball Earns Shutout Sweep Over UVA Wise, 10-0 & 10-0, Saturday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (13-10, 8-4 SAC) grabbed a pair of run-rule shutouts against Southwest Virginia rival, the University of Virginia's College at Wise (4-20, 2-12 SAC) Saturday in South Atlantic Conference action. The Wasps won both games by scores of 10-0 in five innings.

Game One – Emory & Henry 10, UVA Wise 0 (five innings)
Emory & Henry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as junior pitcher Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) drilled a three-run home run over the left-centerfield fence.

The Wasps plated six runs in the second to make it a 9-0 advantage. Sophomore centerfielder Makenzie Williams (St. Augustine, Fla.) notched a two-run double to get things started with freshman second baseman Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) and junior right fielder Kenzie Ingo (Wytheville, Va.) driving in a pair each with base knocks.

Ingo capped the scoring for E&H in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to left field, making the final score 10-0.

Adkins threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts as she faced the minimum number of batters in the shortened contest. McKenna Falwell allowed nine runs on seven hits and three walks in two innings of work.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 10, UVA Wise 0 (five innings)
After a scoreless first inning, E&H exploded for seven runs in the second. Ingo smacked a three-run home run to center to get the Wasps on the board. Street had a two-run base knock later in the frame to pushed the margin to 7-0.

In the fourth, E&H added a trio of runs to get up the second abbreviated contest of the day. Freshman shortstop Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.) and freshman left fielder Ashlee Foster (King William, Va.) each had RBI singles in the frame as the Wasps won the nightcap by a 10-0 margin.

Adkins posted her second shutout of the day, this time a three-hitter with four strikeouts. Alivia Nolley threw three-plus innings, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and two walks.
