Emory & Henry’s Avery Adkins Notches VaSID All-State Recognition

NORFOLK, Va. – Emory & Henry College Softball's Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) has collected yet another postseason accolade. The two-time All-Southeast Region and All-South Atlantic Conference First Team pick was honored with VaSID All-State Second Team recognition by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

It is the seventh time in the past eight years that Emory & Henry has seen one of its own selected to the all-state teams.

Adkins played in 36 of the team's 39 games with 33 appearances in the circle. She posted a 20-11 record with 28 complete games and eight shutouts, over 206 innings pitched. Adkins boasted a 2.34 earned run average and struck out 180 batters while walking just 21.

The Staunton River High School product also excelled with the bat, hitting .347 on the year with 17 runs scored on 33 hits with 13 extra-base hits including five home runs. She notched a .436 on-base percentage with a .600 slugging average. Adkins had 11 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games, reaching base safely in 26 contests.

Randolph-Macon College's Gracie Ellis and Riley Baughan were named State Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, while Sarah Prosser of Virginia Wesleyan University was tabbed as the State Rookie of the Year. Christopher Newport University head coach Keith Parr earned Coach of the Year honors for the third time in four years.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 15 sports and five single-division teams. The group also recognizes Academic All-State teams across all sports.
