Lincoln Memorial Softball Sweeps Emory & Henry In SAC Action Saturday

E&H celebrates a home run at home plate.

EMORY, Va. – The Lincoln Memorial University Softball Team (17-13, 4-2 SAC) claimed a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins over Emory & Henry College Softball Team (11-12, 2-4 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The Lady Railsplitters won by scores of 10-1 and 21-6.

Game One  – Lincoln Memorial 10, Emory & Henry 1
LMU got on the board in the top of the first with a pair of runs. The Wasps answered in its half of the frame as senior catcher Morgan Silvis (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) drove in junior centerfielder Mackenzie Williams (St. Augustine, Fla.) with a base knock to left.

In the second, the Lady Railsplitters scored a pair highlighted by a triple to right field by Sterre den Duijn to go up 4-1. Another run in the fourth pushed the margin to 5-1 while three in the fifth extended the lead to 8-1 as Katie Tuggle plated a pair with a single through the left side.

Lincoln Memorial added two more insurance runs in the seventh for the final 10-1 margin.

Margot van Eijl earned the complete game victory for the Railsplitters, scattering one run on five hits with four strikeouts.  E&H junior MaKayla Dowdy (Blacksburg, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs on four hits with four walks.

Game Two – Lincoln Memorial 21, Emory & Henry 6(five innings)
In the top of the first the Lady Railsplitters scored a trio of runs, highlighted by a two-run double to left-center. Silvis made it a 3-2 contest in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot down the left field line.

LMU scored seven in the top of the to break the game open, 10-2, with Madison Henry driving in two with a base knock to left field. In the bottom of the second sophomore third baseman Ashlyn Rachon (Greeneville, Tenn.) knocked a solo home run while junior right fielder Danielle King (Spencer, Va.) had a RBI double to left-center to make it 10-4.

Four runs by Lincoln Memorial including a three-run shot by Jordann Reagan in the third made it 14-4 while sophomore second baseman Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.) had a solo shot in the bottom of the third for a 14-5 score.

A three-run home run by den Duijn in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth pushed the Lady Railsplitters across the 20-run mark while E&H got its final run in the fourth as Taylor cleared the left field wall.

LMU's Aslynn Lupton earned the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit in 2.0 innings of work. Wasp junior Olivia Yates (Floyd, Va.) allowed four earned runs on five hits and five walks in 1.1 innings.
