No. 11 Wingate Softball Picks Up SAC Sweep Over Emory & Henry, 7-0 & 5-0, Saturday

WINGATE, N.C. – The No. 11 Wingate University Softball Team (37-6, 15-1 SAC) earned a pair of South Atlantic Conference victories over visiting Emory & Henry College (17-16, 8-10 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The nationally-ranked Bulldogs won the opener by a 7-0 score and completed the sweep, 5-0.

Game One – No. 11 Wingate 7, Emory & Henry 0
The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the first as Hannah Stevens drove in Kaylee Hobgood with a single through the left side. In the third, Wingate pressed the margin to 3-0 when a pair of runs scored on a wild pitch.

WU added another two runs in the fifth on a two-run home run by Stevens to right field. The Bulldogs capped the scoring in the sixth on a RBI fielder's choice by Kaylee Hobgood and an infield single by Savanna Brooks for the final 7-0 margin.

Wingate's Raechel Cutcher earned the win in six innings of work with 12 strikeouts, two hits and one walk. E&H sophomore right-hander Kylie Cundiff (Roanoke, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two – No. 11 Wingate 5, Emory & Henry 0
Wingate scored the first run in the second as Raelynn Kramer drove in Heaven Maness with a fielder's choice. In the third, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 2-0 as Maness plated Sydney Kale with a double down the left-field line.

Three runs in the fifth pushed the score out to 5-0. Ragan Liles drove in Maness with a triple and completed her trip around the bases when Kramer hit a two-run homer to center to cap the scoring.

Kale pitched a perfect game, striking out nine of the 21 batters she faced. Wasp freshman Destiny Good (Staunton, Va.) was settled with the loss, as five runs scored on 11 hits.

Emory & Henry will return home on Tuesday to host No. 18 Lenoir-Rhyne University at 2:30 p.m.
