Mari Cook enters her third year as an assistant softball coach at Emory & Henry College. Cook will assist in all aspects of the program including working with infielders, outfielders, hitters, recruiting, field maintenance, and administrative duties. She also brings experience working with student-athletes on the mental part of their game. Cook’s experience and passion for softball adds great value to the Wasps’ coaching staff.

Cook comes to Emory & Henry from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina where she was an assistant coach during the 2021 season. She assisted in all aspects of the program and helped the Lady Catawba Indians to a 28-11 overall record including a 15-9 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.

Prior to coaching, Cook was recruited out of high school and played at NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina University for Coach Kelley Green where she was on the Dean’s List three semesters in a row. She played her final two years of collegiate softball at Brevard College where she hit .330 with 22 RBI, was a team captain, and selected for the All-USA South Athletic Conference West Division First Team. While at Brevard, Cook was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a peer mentor, and a member of the Olympic weightlifting club.

Cook starred at Beaufort High School where she was a five-year varsity starter, joining the team as an eighth-grader. She was a two-year team captain and led her team to the state playoffs in 2014 and 2015. In 2015, Cook hit .345 with eight doubles, seven home runs, and 22 RBI on her way to being named to the South Carolina 4A All-State team.

A native of Beaufort, South Carolina, Cook now resides in Meadowview, Virginia with her cat, Nemo.
