In 2021, Delp helped the team to its’ highest winning percentage in program history (.763), highest ranking in the NFCA top 25 poll (reaching as high as 9th on two occasions), and deepest postseason run in the NCAA Tournament (T-9). Delp’s offense led the charge by averaging over 5 runs per game and boasting an impressive .305 batting average as well putting up league bests in home runs (31) and extra base hits per game (3.08).

In 2020, Emory & Henry’s hitters blasted an ODAC-best 10 home runs in 17 games before the season was cut short due to precautions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Delp’s instruction, the offense outscored its opposition, 78-64, against one of the top strengths of schedule in NCAA Division III.

In 2019, Delp helped lead the team to 25 victories, a regular season runner-up finish in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and a berth in the NCAA Division III national championship Demorest Regional. In ODAC play, Delp’s offense led the league in slugging percentage with a .510 mark. The team ranked second in runs (122), doubles (35), and home runs (19) as well as third in the conference in batting average (.324), on-base percentage (.389), hits (181), triples (6), and stolen bases (47).

In Delp’s first season as hitting coach, the Wasps won 31 games, finished as the runner-up in the ODAC Tournament, earned its first-ever top 25 national ranking, and saw six players selected to All-ODAC Teams. Offensively, E&H led ODAC play in doubles, triples, and extra-base hits. The team was top three in runs, hits, runs batted in, home runs, batting average, and slugging percentage.

Prior to coming to Emory & Henry, Delp spent 18 years coaching softball at the high school level, including the final 16 seasons as the Head Softball Coach at Abingdon High School. While leading the Falcons, Delp created a strong tradition of winning, resulting in a pair of appearances in the VHSL State Championship game. He has seen a number of his players move on to the next level and play softball collegiately, including several at Emory & Henry.

In addition to his role with Emory & Henry, Delp teaches at Abingdon High School and coaches the golf team which won the VHSL Championship in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

A 1998 graduate of Emory & Henry, Delp played baseball and golf for the Wasps during his years as an undergraduate. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and geography from the College. A Washington County, Virginia native, Delp resides in Meadowview with his wife (Beth) and children (Lily, Sadie and Riley).
