Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Basketball Takes Care of Emory & Henry, 74-52, Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Basketball Team (9-2, 6-0 ODAC) remained undefeated in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Friday night as it used a 20-6 run in the second half to beat Emory & Henry College (1-5, 0-4 ODAC) by a 74-52 score Friday evening at the John Rutledge King Center.

The Marlins got out to a 10-3 lead just 2:53 into the contest, but Emory & Henry stormed back to cut the lead to one at 14-13 with 11:12 on the clock. Virginia Wesleyan was able to push its lead to 12 less than two minutes later and would also hold a 12-point advantage at halftime.

After the break, the Wasps cut the margin to eight (48-40) with 14:39 to go in the game before the Marlins' 20-6 run that covered eight and a half minutes for a 68-46 lead. Virginia Wesleyan wouldn't let E&H any closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

The Marlins were led by Sarah Seipp with a game-high 19 points on eight-for-nine shooting from the floor. Seipp added five rebounds and five steals on the night. Kristen Blalock and Shawnee Lewis posted 15 and 10 points, respectively, for VWC.

Emory & Henry was led by freshman guard Kristie Langley's (Staley, N.C.) career-high 18 points while freshman guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) had eight points and eight rebounds.

E&H will remain at home tomorrow as the Wasps host the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
