Washington and Lee Women’s Basketball Routs Emory & Henry, 71-50, Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Women's Basketball Team (7-10, 5-7 ODAC) shot 53.6 percent (15-for-28) in the second half en route to defeating Emory & Henry College (2-12, 1-11 ODAC) by a 71-50 score Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at the John Rutledge King Center.

E&H built a 7-0 lead to start the game and led as late as 2:18 in the first half (26-25). A 5-0 run by the Generals to finish the opening frame gave them a 30-26 lead going into the break. Seven points was the largest lead for either team as the majority of initial 20 minutes was a four-point contest.

The Wasps started off the second half in good position as well, trimming the Generals' lead to two (30-28 with 18:55 remaining). Washington and Lee then began hitting their shots and scored 16 points in the paint in the second period. W&L gradually added to its lead with runs of 10-3 and 9-2 to take a 22-point lead (70-48) with 76 seconds remaining. A layup by the Wasps and a free throw by the Generals gave the contest its final margin.

Washington and Lee was paced by Meg Ingram and Katy Wilson with 19 points each, leading all scorers. Ingram had five assists and three steals while Wilson recorded eight rebounds in the game. Rachel Warrick tallied 11 points while Becca Bolton had 10 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three blocks on the day. The Generals shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) for the game and held a 38-34 rebounding advantage.

Emory & Henry freshman guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had 11 points and five rebounds on the day as the Wasps leading scorer. Freshman guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) registered 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals while freshman center Carlyta Hamm (Wytheville, Va.) tallied 10 points and seven rebounds in just 14 minutes on the court.

E&H will next take the court on Friday, February 3 when it travels to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan College in ODAC action. Tipoff between the Wasps and Marlins is set for 7:00 p.m.
