Washington and Lee Women’s Basketball Routs Emory & Henry, 75-46, Tuesday Evening

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Women's Basketball Team (11-12, 9-9 ODAC) shot 41.4 percent and forced 26 turnovers, defeating Emory & Henry College (2-18, 1-17 ODAC) by a 75-46 score Tuesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

Emory & Henry led early, 7-3, but Washington and Lee went on a 25-2 run that covered 10:10 to go up 28-9. The Generals would lead by as much as 23 (36-13) in the opening period en route to a 40-19 halftime advantage.

W&L started the second half like it ended the first. Over the first 5:06, the Generals outscored the Wasps 17-4 for a 55-23 lead. Another 10-2 run would give Washington and Lee its largest lead of the contest at 34 points with 3:34 remaining. Emory & Henry would score five unanswered points to close the night, and cut the margin to 75-46.

The Generals had three players reach double figures in scoring, led by Rachel Warrick with 17 points. Katy Wilson registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Becca Bolton notched 14 points, seven rebounds and six steals on the night. As a team, W&L was 29-for-70 (41.1 percent) from the floor, held a 44-41 rebounding advantage and scored 25 points of E&H turnovers.

Emory & Henry was paced by freshman guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) with 14 points as she hit two treys and added four rebounds. Senior forward Ashlyn Baird (Boone, N.C.) had seven points and six boards in the contest. The Wasps were just 29.3 percent (17-for-58) on field goals but hit nine-of-10 free throw attempts.

E&H will return home this weekend for its final two games of the 2011-12 season. The Wasps will take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University Friday at 7:00 p.m., and will host the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Senior Day Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
