Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Delaware Valley, 84-81, In McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament Saturday

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team evened its record at 1-1 on the year with a 84-81 come-from-behind victory over Delaware Valley College (0-2) Saturday afternoon in the McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament consolation game. The Wasps were led by sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) who led all players with 29 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

The contest had a 15-minute delay during the first half due to a malfunctioning scoreboard console and was stopped again after the break.

Delaware Valley got out to a 9-2 lead at the 16:53 mark of the first half but E&H responded with an 11-2 scoring spurt over the next 1:41 to go up 13-11. The Wasps made three treys during the run with sophomore guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) connecting on two with Langley hitting the third.

Emory & Henry would lead by as much as five points late in the first half (39-34 with 1:59 remaining), but a 7-3 run by DVC closed the gap to 42-41 at the intermission.

After the break, the Wasps extended their lead back to five in the first minute of the second half (47-42), however the Aggies tied the contest at 58 points apiece with 14:49 on the clock. DelVal then went on a 9-2 run to go up 67-60, its largest lead of the contest.

The Wasps kept grinding and tied the contest again at 71, but the Aggies went back on the attack for a 81-75 advantage with just 2:02 remaining in the game.

E&H saw its opportunity and seized it for the win. Langley hit four free throws down the stretch and Williams made her fourth three-pointer of the day to go up 82-81. A pair of free throws by freshman forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) with 20 seconds remaining completed the 9-0 run, giving the Wasps the victory.

For the game, Emory & Henry shot 40.3 percent (25-for-62) from the field and hit nine three-point baskets. The Wasps outrebounded the Aggies 48-39 and converted 25-of-31 (80.6 percent) of their free throws.

Langley finished the game with 29 points for a career high and added seven rebounds as she went 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Williams registered 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals while Farr earned the first double-double of her career (11 points, 12 rebounds). Sophomore guard Jalan McPherson (Jonesville, Va.) had 11 points, five rebounds and three steals as well.

DelVal saw five players reach double figures in scoring led by Eireann Anastasi with 22 points while Emily Soper had 18 points and 11 boards. Brenna Coll tallied 13 points and eight rebounds while Kelsey Kilpatrick and Shannon Barlow had 11 points each.

The Aggies shot 38.2 percent from the field and won the turnover battle, 14-21.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road next Saturday, November 24 when it travels to Raleigh, N.C., to face the Avenging Angels of Meredith College. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
