Emory & Henry Women's Basketball Blows By Randolph, 69-49, Wednesday In ODAC Play

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (2-3, 1-0 ODAC) picked up their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Wednesday as it defeated Randolph College (1-3, 0-1 ODAC) by a 69-49 score at the John Rutledge King Center and Bob Johnson Court.

The two squads battled to a 7-7 tied at the 15:10 mark of the first half. Emory & Henry then went on a 9-0 run to open up a 16-7 lead thanks to five points by freshman forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.). After the WildCats cut the advantage back to three (17-14), the Wasps scored the next 16 points covering 5:23 to go up 33-14. E&H would score 10 of the final 13 points of the frame to take a 43-19 advantage into the locker room.

After the break, Randolph would cut the lead to 14 at the 12:00 mark (45-31) but Emory & Henry used an 18-7 run over the next six and a half minutes to get its largest lead of the contest, 63-38. The WildCats chipped into the lead late in the contest with the Wasps' going to their bench, but would never get the margin under 20.

Emory & Henry was paced by Farr who had 16 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had 18 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals while junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) tallied 13 points and six rebounds.

As a team, the Wasps shot 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the floor and hit six three-pointers. E&H was 19-for-31 from the free throw line, and had 25 steals in the contest. Emory & Henry also won the points off turnover battle, 30-9, and had 16 second-chance points.

Randolph's Lindsey Higgins was the only player to reach double figures as she tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Emilee Dunton had nine points and three assists. The WildCats shot only 31.0 percent (18-for-58) for the game and only got to the free throw line 12 times, converting seven attempts.

Emory & Henry will travel to Shenandoah on Saturday for an ODAC contest. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
