EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (4-3) picked up its third win in a row Wednesday evening, defeating Southern Virginia University (3-3) by a 78-67 score at the John Rutledge King Center.

The two squads battled back and forth for the first half as neither team led by more than five points in the opening 20 minutes. Emory & Henry put together an 8-2 run late in the frame for its first advantage of the contest (26-24). SVU tied the contest at 30 points apiece, but E&H got a three-pointer from sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) just before the break to take a 33-30 lead into the locker room.

After the intermission, the Knights tied the contest at 38 with 16:34 remaining, but a 16-2 that covered 5:02 put the Wasps ahead, 54-40. Southern Virginia cut the deficit to single digits on four separate occasions but was answered immediately by Emory & Henry. After the final time, E&H scored a pair of three-point baskets for a 15-point (70-55) lead and SVU never threatened again as the Wasps rolled to their third-straight win, 78-67.

The Wasps saw four players reach double figures in scoring led by sophomore guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.), who scored 19 points and connected on three treys. Freshman guard Courtney Puckett (Bassett, Va.) had a career-high 11 points and added four rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Langley had 13 points and four assists while junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) talied 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Freshman forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) had nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists in the contest.

Southern Virginia was paced by Mina Romito with 20 points and eight rebounds while Ann Kuroki had 15 points and 10 boards to complete the double-double. Amaris Newkirk chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Crystal Cleveland led all players with 20 rebounds.

E&H will remain at home on Saturday when it faces Covenant College. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
