Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Too Much For Emory & Henry, 64-46, Saturday In ODAC Play

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Women's Basketball Team (10-6, 5-3 ODAC) held off a second-half rally by Emory & Henry College (7-9, 4-4 ODAC) Saturday evening en route to winning, 64-46, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action at Turner Gymnasium.

The two squads traded baskets for the first 4:30 of the contest, knotting the contest at 7-7. Lynchburg then went on a 13-2 run for a 20-9 advantage at the 6:57 mark. E&H then scored eight-straight points, six of which came from sophomore guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.), to trim the lead to 20-17. The Hornets would go on to take a 22-17 advantage into the break.

Emory & Henry kept the pressure on in the second half, cutting the lead to 33-32 thanks in part to a 9-2 run which covered 2:10. With the score 38-36, Lynchburg went on a 19-6 run to go up 57-42 with 4:54 on the clock. The Wasps couldn't get a field goal to fall for the final 5:44 of the contest as the Hornets went on to win, 64-46.

Lynchburg was paced by Shannon Allan's 26 points, five blocks and four rebounds while Shea Kelley had 12 points four assists and four steals. Lauren Penley posted nine points and 11 boards as well for the Hornets. LC shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) for the contest and won the rebounding battle, 45-34.

Sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) led the way with 12 points and nine rebounds while Williams finished the game with 15 points, including four treys, and five rebounds. Junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) and sophomore guard Jalan McPherson (Jonesville, Va.) tallied eight and seven points, respectively for E&H.

As a team, Emory & Henry shot just 13-for-51 (25.5%) for the game. The Wasps forced 17 miscues by the Hornets in the game, winning the points off turnovers, 18-11. E&H put up a solid defensive effort despite being without two of their top players due to illness.

Emory & Henry will return home on Wednesday evening when it hosts Guilford College in ODAC action. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
