Guilford Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 73-58, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Guilford College Women's Basketball Team (15-3, 8-1 ODAC) remained atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings Wednesday evening as it defeated Emory & Henry College, 73-58, at the John Rutledge King Center. The Quakers shot 58.8 percent (20-for-34) in the second half en route to the victory.

Emory & Henry got out to a 15-5 lead at the 15:58 mark of the first half thanks to eight points from junior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.). The Quakers then responded with a 16-3 run to go up 21-18 with 7:07 on the clock. The two squads traded baskets for the remainder of the half with E&H going into the break, up 28-27.

Guilford came out of the locker room on fire, outscoring Emory & Henry 13-0 in the first four minutes of the second half for a 40-28 lead. The Wasps had an 8-2 scoring spurt to trim the margin to 42-36 with 12:24 on the clock. Up 56-48, the Quakers put the game out of reach with a 15-6 run covering 4:22, going on to win 73-58.

Morgan King led all players with 22 points and seven rebounds as she went 10-for-14 from the field for Guilford. Jaclyn Nucci tallied 14 points, five rebound and four assists while Brittany Drew had 13 points four rebounds and three steals. Gabby Oglesby notched 10 points of her own for the Quakers.

Guilford shot 32-for-60 (53.3%) for the game and scored 50 points in the paint as they managed 14 assists and won the battle of the boards, 36-33.

Wright finished the game with 14 points to lead Emory & Henry, connecting on three-of-five attempts from beyond the arc, and pulling down four rebounds. Sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Michelle Williams (Stokesdale, N.C.) and freshman center Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) had six points apiece off the bench.

The Wasps shot just 35.0 percent (21-for-60) for the contest despite hitting eight three-pointers.

Emory & Henry will travel on Saturday afternoon to face Bridgewater College at 4:00 p.m., in an ODAC contest.
