Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Basketball Too Much For Emory & Henry Saturday Afternoon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Basketball Team (17-8, 12-4 ODAC) picked up a 77-31 win over Emory & Henry College (7-17, 4-12 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at the Batten Center in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Marlins got out to a 17-2 lead at the 12:20 mark of the first half and never looked back. Virginia Wesleyan pushed its advantage to 26 in the first half but the Wasps scored six of the last nine points of the period for a 35-12 halftime score.

The second half was more of the same. VWC started off on a 19-4 run to push its advantage to 54-16 with 10:42 on the clock. The Marlins would lead by as much as 48 in the contest (75-27), as they cruised to the 77-31 victory, the biggest loss of the year for the Wasps.

Sarah Seipp scored 16 points off the bench and dished out three assists to lead Virginia Wesleyan. Nancy Kelly and Rachael Miller had 13 and 10 points, respectively. Eleven of the 13 Marlins that saw time in the contest put points on the board.

As a team, VWC shot 46 percent (29-for-63) from the floor and hit nine three-pointers. The Marlins forced 32 turnovers in the contest, off which they scored 37 points.

Sophomore guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) led the way for Emory & Henry as she tallied eight points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Tenesha Connor (Greensboro, N.C.) had seven points while freshman forwards Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) and Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) each posted four points and five rebounds.

E&H shot just 25.5 percent (13-for-51) for the game and hit only one of its 10 attempts from beyond the arc. The Wasps only went to the free throw line seven times (4-for-7) in the game compared to 10-for-16 shooting by the Marlins.

Emory & Henry will await the announcement of the pairings for the 2013 ODAC Tournament, which will be released by the league office later this evening. The Wasps will be on the road on Monday with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
