Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Takes Care Of Emory & Henry, 70-46, Saturday Afternoon

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg College Women's Basketball Team (8-7, 5-1 ODAC) took advantage of 30 points in the paint as it defeated visiting Emory & Henry College (3-12, 1-5 ODAC) by a 70-46 score at Turner Gymnasium.

The Hornets got out to a 6-0 lead in the first 3:05 of the game but the Wasps tied things up at seven points thanks to a 7-1 run. With the score tied, 14-14, Lynchburg finished the half with a 17-7 run to take a 31-21 advantage into the break.

In the second half, LC continued to expand the margin to 22 (50-28) thanks to an 11-1 run that covered 3:46. Emory & Henry closed the margin to 15 points thanks to a 14-7 scoring spurt, but would get no closer as Lynchburg pushed its lead back above 20 points and went on to win, 70-46.

Lynchburg's Charmaine Hairston led all scorers with 18 points off the bench while Chaney Forbush had 13 points on four-for-seven shooting and added five rebounds. Shannon Allen added 11 points as well for the Hornets. LC shot 45.8 percent (27-for-59) from the field and held an 18-6 advantage on points off turnovers.

E&H sophomore forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) registered 11 points and had seven rebounds. Junior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) added eight points and had a game-high nine points. Sophomore guard Anna Green (Raleigh, N.C.), freshman guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) and freshman guard Asja Jenkins (Richmond, Va.) each chipped in six points. The Wasps were just 29.1 percent (16-for-55) shooting for the game and hit only three-of-17 three-point attempts.

Emory & Henry will return home on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest with Guilford College.
