Randolph Women’s Basketball Slips Past Emory & Henry, 60-53, Saturday In ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College Women's Basketball Team (9-8, 3-5 ODAC) picked up a 60-53 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (3-14, 1-7 ODAC) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

The WildCats got out to a 14-4 lead at the 11:26 mark of the first half, but a 6-0 run by the Wasps trimmed the margin to 14-10. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the first half for a 28-24 score at the intermission in favor of Randolph.

Emory & Henry came out of the break with a 14-6 run to take a 38-34 lead with 13:27 left in the game. Randolph responded with a 16-5 run that spanned 8:26 to take a lead that it would not relinquish. Down by eight with 1:16 remaining, E&H scored five straight points to get within three (56-53). The Wasps were then forced to foul, but were unable to get any closer as they missed five field goal attempts in the final 40 seconds of the game.

Randolph was led by Emilee Dunton as she scored 13 points and added five rebounds and three assists. Abigail Bullins tallied 11 points while Jensen Hoover notched nine points and pulled down a game-high 14 boards. The WildCats shot 38.2 percent (21-for-55) for the game and hit 16-of-32 (50%) of their free throw attempts. RC held a 22-14 advantage on points in the paint and also led 20-14 on points off turnovers.

Freshman guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) scored a game-high 15 points for Emory & Henry as she went six-for-six from the free throw line and added four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Senior forward JoBeth Wright (Mooresville, N.C.) notched eight points and five rebounds while sophomore forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) had seven points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Junior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) had six points and eight rebounds while sophomore forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) pulled down seven boards off the bench.

As a team, Emory & Henry continued to struggle shooting, hitting only 16-of-65 (24.6%) of its field goal attempts. The Wasps were 22.7 percent (5-for-22) from behind the three-point arc. E&H forced 21 turnovers by Randolph with 10 steals but were unable to convert the extra opportunities.

Emory & Henry will return home on Wednesday evening for an ODAC contest against Hollins University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
