Eastern Mennonite Women’s Basketball Downs Emory & Henry, 76-56, Saturday In ODAC Play

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University Women's Basketball Team (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) opened up a 42-26 halftime lead en route to a 76-56 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-4, 0-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Yoder Arena.

The two squads traded baskets early to a 13-all tie at the 13:15 mark of the first half but a 13-1 run  by EMU gave the Royals a 26-14 advantage 4:29 later. Eastern Mennonite would lead by as much as 18 (42-24) in the first half after Sa'Mone Moore hit a three-pointer before Emory & Henry hit the final shot of the opening 20 minutes for a 42-26 margin at the break.

In the second half, the Royals continued their hot shooting from the field, leading by as much as 64-35 with 9:52 to go in the contest. Emory & Henry began to claw its way back into the game, cutting into the EMU lead over the course of the final nine minutes of play. The Wasps finished the contest on a 13-4 run, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as the Royals went on to win, 76-56.

Moore finished the game with a team-high 17 points, hitting four three-pointers on six-of-12 shooting for the game. Myneshia Walker had 12 points as she added another four treys while Alisa Brown chipped in 11 points. Jess Rheinheimer notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding four assists and two blocks.

As a team, the Royals shot 53.8 percent (28-for-52) for the game, hitting 11 shots from beyond the arc. EMU led 24-13 on points off turnovers, overcoming 23 miscues of its own.

Emory & Henry was paced by junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds as she went six-for-13 from the field. Junior center Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) had 10 points off the bench while sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) notched four points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists.

The Wasps shot just 22-for-63 (34.9%) for the game and were 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the free throw line. E&H managed a 36-35 rebounding advantage and pulled down 18 offensive boards, but could only score eight second-chance point in the game.

Emory & Henry will return home on Wednesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game against Randolph College. Tipoff between the Wasps and WildCats is set for 7:00 p.m.
